Our Client, Republic Bank (Suriname) Limited, is seeking to fill the position of Manager, Internal Audit. This is a permanent position based in Paramaribo and is open to all Caricom Nationals. The Manager, Internal Audit will focus on Operational Audits.

  

OBJECTIVE

To undertake effective audits of Specialist Units and Commercial & Retail lines of business throughout the Group as assigned in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the internal control system so as to assure Executives, the Audit Committee and the Board of Directors that the internal controls are effectively designed and executed, and reasonably mitigate the inherent risks within the respective lines of business.

To provide consultancy services to Management to advise or guide how operating efficiency and process improvement could be better achieved from the line of business’ workflow process execution and risk mitigation.

To document and analyse the risks faced by the Bank across its entire spectrum of operations.  To aid the business in closing any control gaps identified.  To assist in the implementation of new systems and procedures through participation on project teams. To encourage personal and professional growth of all team members.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide independent, objective risk assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of risk management practices, internal control and corporate governance processes within the Bank and other subsidiaries which ultimately impact shareholders, employees and customers.
  • Provide input into the annual audit risk assessment of the Audit Universe.
  • Research the business under review, keep abreast of current events and industry best practices.
  • To understand objectives, processes, best practices, risks and controls of current activities, relevant legislation, likely issues and emerging risks.
  • Evaluation and testing of key risks and controls.
  • To ensure that controls identified are adequately designed and are working as intended to provide assurance to Executives, the Audit Committee and Board of Directors that controls in the respective lines of business are satisfactory and risk exposure in the business is acceptable.
  • Perform reviews on the status of remediation efforts by Management to ensure risks are mitigated.
  • Direct/supervise/implement the execution of audit plan and ensure effective audit practices for traditional and continuous audits.
  • Training and coaching of staff.
  • To aid in the professional development of the staff of the Internal Audit department: to impart knowledge and understanding of risks and controls to the line of business clients. Provide leadership, coaching and performance management development support to direct reports.
  • Raise the technical knowledge of staff, identifying knowledge gaps and initiating training through seminars and in-house training.
  • Conduct special examinations at the request of Senior Management and the Audit Committee.
  • To provide assurance on specific controls or to provide requested information to aid in decision making; to undertake fraud investigations or special investigations into areas of concern in the Organisation, especially where risk exposure exists.
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties.
  • Completed performance reviews, vacation and other schedules, returns to head office and processing of audit claims.
  • Works towards ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and deliver expected results by use of business and process knowledge and experience.  Ultimately to consider risks/controls in projects and ensure risk exposure is acceptable for project launch into production.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a financial entity in Auditing, Compliance, Risk Management and Management.
  • Wide knowledge of business processes in general and banking in particular, knowledge of current business best practices and audit methodologies.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) qualification would be desirable.
